This time off of the stage, and especially during the quarantine period, I have realized that I have been given so much valuable insight into music making through experience and the generosity and knowledge of my incredible mentors. This reflective time awoke the notion that it is my duty to disseminate the knowledge passed on to me.
I have experience in college/conservatory auditions, solo competitions, orchestral/band playing, chamber music, new music, improvised experimental music, extended techniques, auxiliary flutes and standard flute repertoire and technique.
As a first generation Mexican-American from humble roots, I did not encounter many people like me in the orchestras, schools and summer programs. Through my teaching, I aim to approach pedagogy with an acute sensitivity to each students needs and strengths navigating this historically closed off field. The hope is to inspire curiosity and aid in development of artistic and technical growth while helping the student find confidence in their own voice.
Learning an instrument gives skills that influence all aspects of life. Flute lessons go beyond just being able to play music with this tube of metal. It is an opportunity to develop critical thinking skills, strengthen imaginative dreaming and practice developing a solid work ethic, among many other things.
